Full Product Description

The Siblingship DNA Test provides evidence of a biological relationship between two possible siblings when direct parent testing is not available. This type of test can indicate whether two people are full siblings (sharing both parents) or half siblings (sharing only one parent). While not as definitive as direct parentage testing, a siblingship test can still provide valuable information in cases such as immigration, inheritance, or personal knowledge.

Types of Siblingship Tests

Full Siblingship with a Common Parent Participating

• Two siblings share the same mother and want to know if they also share the same father (who is unavailable).

Full Siblingship without a Common Parent Participating

• Two siblings want to know if they share both parents, but the mother is not available.

• Mother’s participation is strongly encouraged for more conclusive results.

Half Siblingship with Two Mothers Participating

• Two siblings have different mothers but want to know if they share the same father (who is unavailable).

Half Siblingship without Parents Participating

• Two siblings want to know if they share one common parent, but neither mother is available.

• Testing is still possible, though adding a parent increases accuracy.

Turnaround Time

• Standard: 5 business days from receipt of all samples

Chain-of-Custody Testing (For Legal Purposes)

For results admissible in court (inheritance disputes, immigration, etc.), chain-of-custody procedures must be followed:

• Samples collected by a neutral third party (clinic or laboratory)

• Positive ID verification with government-issued ID, photo, and/or fingerprinting

• Standard DDC kit used

• Completion of Client Identification & Consent Form (COC-4002-CA)

• Guardianship of tested minor verified at time of signing

• Kits may not be handled by clients before or after collection

Non-Chain-of-Custody Testing (For Personal Knowledge)

For peace-of-mind testing only:

• At-home kit provided for buccal (cheek swab) collection

• Samples collected by the tested individuals themselves

• Results not valid for legal purposes

• Names on report match how they are labeled on the samples

• Each kit assigned a unique barcode for tracking and account reference

Important Notes

• Siblingship testing is not as definitive as parentage testing. Results indicate the likelihood of a relationship, not absolute proof.

• Including a biological parent (such as the mother) increases the probability of conclusive results. Without her, results may be inconclusive.

• Results are reported as a Combined Siblingship Index, showing:

  • The odds in favor of the relationship

  • A percentage probability of siblingship

• Additional relatives may be suggested for testing if results are unclear.

• A siblingship rider form is required at the time of testing to ensure the correct type of test is performed.
