DOT & Non-DOT Drug Testing

Dot Drug Testing

What is DOT drug testing?

DOT drug testing is a federally regulated drug testing program required for certain safety-sensitive employees under U.S. Department of Transportation regulations. These tests must follow strict procedures related to specimen collection, chain of custody, laboratory analysis, and Medical Review Officer (MRO) review.

DOT drug testing is required for employees performing safety-sensitive functions in regulated transportation industries, including but not limited to commercial drivers, aviation personnel, pipeline workers, railroad employees, and maritime personnel, as defined by DOT regulations.

DOT drug tests screen for a standardized panel of substances as mandated by federal regulations. The panel currently includes:

  • Marijuana

  • Cocaine

  • Amphetamines (including methamphetamine)

  • Opioids (including codeine, morphine, heroin, oxycodone, oxymorphone, and hydrocodone)

  • Phencyclidine (PCP)

Yes. PhlebCARE offers mobile DOT drug testing services for employers and organizations, subject to site suitability and compliance requirements. Mobile collections are performed in accordance with DOT regulations and chain-of-custody procedures.

Individuals completing a DOT drug test must bring:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID

  • Any required employer authorization or testing documentation, if applicable

Additional instructions may be provided by the employer or testing coordinator prior to the appointment.

DOT drug test results are reviewed by a certified Medical Review Officer (MRO). The MRO verifies laboratory results, contacts the donor if necessary, and reports final results to the designated employer representative in compliance with DOT regulations.

Non-Dot Drug Testing

What is non-DOT drug testing?

Non-DOT drug testing refers to drug testing that is not governed by federal DOT regulations. These tests are typically conducted based on employer policies, organizational requirements, court orders, or personal needs.

Non-DOT drug testing is commonly used by:

  • Employers outside DOT-regulated industries

  • Schools or educational programs

  • Courts or legal entities

  • Rehabilitation or recovery programs

  • Individuals requesting personal or employment-related testing

PhlebCARE offers a variety of non-DOT drug testing options, which may include urine, oral fluid, or other approved specimen types. Test panels and configurations vary depending on client needs and requirements.

Yes. PhlebCARE provides mobile and onsite non-DOT drug testing services for individuals, businesses, and organizations, depending on location and scheduling availability.

Result turnaround times vary based on the type of test and laboratory processing. Some screening results may be available quickly, while confirmatory testing may take additional time. Estimated turnaround times will be provided during scheduling or upon request.
