Grandparentage Test – Full

Full Product Description

The Grandparentage DNA Test provides a reliable alternative when the alleged father cannot be tested and no post-mortem sample is available. By analyzing and comparing the DNA patterns of both paternal grandparents with the child (and mother when available), the lab can calculate the probability of grandparentage to help determine biological relationships.

Who Needs to Be Tested

  • One (1) Mother

  • One (1) Child

  • Both Paternal Grandparents (Mother [PM] and Father [PF] of the Alleged Father [AF])

Turnaround Time

  • Standard: 5 business days from receipt of all samples

Chain-of-Custody Testing (For Legal Purposes)

For results that are legally defensible in matters such as inheritance disputes or immigration, a strict chain-of-custody process is required:

  • Samples collected by a neutral third party (clinic or laboratory)

  • Positive identification with government-issued ID, photo, and/or fingerprinting

  • Use of official DDC kit

  • Completion and signing of Client Identification & Consent Form (COC-4002)

  • Guardianship of minor verified at the time of signing

  • Kits may not be handled by clients before or after collection

Non-Chain-of-Custody Testing (For Personal Knowledge)

For families who only want results for peace of mind, a non-legal option is available:

  • At-home kit with buccal (cheek swab) collection

  • Samples collected by the individuals themselves

  • Results not valid for legal purposes

  • Names appear on report exactly as written on samples

  • Each kit assigned a unique barcode for tracking

Important Notes

  • We strongly encourage the mother to participate to help account for one-half of the child’s genetic material and improve test accuracy.

  • Additional relatives may sometimes be requested if genetic results are inconclusive.

  • Results provide a “probability of grandparentage,” not an absolute percentage of paternity.
