Genetic Reconstruction DNA Test
The Genetic Reconstruction DNA Test is used when the alleged father cannot be tested directly. By comparing the child’s DNA with that of paternal relatives, the lab calculates a Combined Relatedness Index and a Probability of Relatedness, giving families clarity about biological relationships.
Who Needs to Be Tested
Option 1
-
One (1) Mother
-
One (1) Child
-
One (1) Paternal Parent (PP) of the Alleged Father (AF)
-
One (1) Full Sibling (FS) of the AF
Option 2
-
One (1) Mother
-
One (1) Child
-
Two (2) Full Siblings (FS) of the AF
Note: Testing half-siblings of the deceased or untested alleged father is not recommended, as they do not share enough common DNA with the child.
Turnaround Time
-
Standard: 5 business days from receipt of all samples
Chain-of-Custody Testing (For Legal Purposes)
Required for results admissible in court for inheritance, immigration, or other legal matters:
-
Samples collected by a neutral third party (clinic or laboratory)
-
Positive ID verified by government-issued ID, photo, and/or fingerprinting
-
Official DDC kit used
-
Client Identification & Consent Form (COC-4002) completed and signed
-
Guardianship of minor verified at time of signing
-
Clients may not handle kits before or after collection
Non-Chain-of-Custody Testing (For Personal Knowledge)
For individuals seeking results for peace of mind only:
-
At-home buccal (cheek swab) kit provided
-
Samples collected by individuals themselves
-
Results not valid for legal purposes
-
Report lists names exactly as provided on samples
-
Each kit assigned a unique barcode for tracking
Important Notes
-
The ideal testing scenario includes: mother, child, one paternal parent, and one or more full siblings of the deceased.
-
Alternative testing with mother, child, and two full siblings of the deceased is also possible.
-
Testing fewer relatives may produce inconclusive results, and the lab may recommend testing additional family members.
-
Results are reported as:
-
Combined Relatedness Index (statistical odds of relatedness)
-
Probability of Relatedness (expressed as a percentage)
-
-
Genetic reconstruction and siblingship testing are not as definitive as direct parentage testing.
