The Avuncular DNA Test provides insight into whether two individuals are related as aunt/uncle and niece/nephew. This test is often used when the alleged father cannot be tested directly and post-mortem, grandparentage, or genetic reconstruction testing is not possible.

Who Needs to Be Tested

• One (1) Mother

• One (1) Child

• One (1) Full Sibling (FS) of the Alleged Father (AF)

• Standard: 5 business days from receipt of all samples

Chain-of-Custody Testing (For Legal Purposes)

Avuncular testing is generally not available as a chain-of-custody test. Results cannot be used in court for legal purposes such as inheritance disputes or immigration cases.

Non-Chain-of-Custody Testing (For Personal Knowledge)

Available through Beta Genetics as a non-legal option:

• At-home buccal (cheek swab) collection kit provided

• Samples collected by the individuals themselves

• Results for personal knowledge only

• Names listed exactly as labeled on the samples

• Each kit assigned a unique barcode for tracking and account reference

Important Notes

• Best used when the alleged father is deceased or unavailable, and other testing options (post-mortem, grandparentage, or reconstruction) cannot be performed.

• Like siblingship and genetic reconstruction testing, avuncular results are not as definitive as direct parentage testing.

• Results provide a Combined Relatedness Index and indicate whether the tested individuals are more or less likely to share the tested relationship (aunt/niece, uncle/nephew, etc.).
